5 Toxic Ingredients Present In Your Everyday Skincare Products

The key to a healthy skin is to dig up what’s behind the beautiful lid of every skincare product. Today the market is flooded with thousands of healthcare and skincare brands, with each one claiming their products to be the best one. But you never know, even the best of the brands carry harmful ingredients!

Recent studies by FDA found harmful chemicals in some of the top brands such as Dove, Hindustan Unilever, Ponds, Mac etc.

If you are thinking that harmful ingredients are only present in makeup products, then you are wrong!
No product is chemical free today and even shampoos, conditioners, skin care medicines, face washes etc. contain harmful chemicals.

Our mission here is to let you know of the top 5 harmful ingredients you should always look for in a product, and ditch it immediately. Have a look at this list-

1. Parabens

Parabens are bad, but it is something which is being used unquestionably in the cosmetic industry from years as a preservative. If you would be digging up any of the creams, you will be surely found it in them, because this chemical prevents bacterias and molds from growing into a product. The problem with this chemical is, it is absorbed by the skin and the bad news is that parabens are linked to cancer growths in the body.

Though there is no conclusive study to prove that they can give rise to cancers, there is some evidence that proves this. This is the reason that brands are coming up with Paraben free versions of their product s. You will be finding paraben in almost anything such as shampoos, lipstick s, concealer, skin care creams, lip balms etc.

Prevention-When buying any product, always look for a paraben free tag or slide through the ingredients and see they should not contain any paraben out of these-benzylparaben,butyiparaben, propylparaben, methylparaben, ethylparaben, isobutylparaben

2. Phthalates

This is something, which is found in almost everything, even inside our body. Pthalates have been found to be distruptive causing hormonal imbalance and are linked to causing insulin resistance and reproductive disorders.

But it would be rare that you would be finding this in the ingrediant list. These are usually listed as “fragrance” to mislead customers.

Prevention- Always choose products which are frangrance free or scented with essential oils.

3.Triclosan

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, triclosan is technically a pesticide. It is a well-known ingredient used in any product claimed to be having antibacterial properties. It works very well at killing bacteria, and that’s actually the main concern as not all bacteria are harmful to you, and furthermore, some experts explain that widespread of this chemical could give rise to “superbugs” – which are harmful bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
This ingredient has been shown to work as both a hormone and thyroid disruptor.

Prevention-Avoid all products having this in their ingredient list.

4. Hydroquinone

Hydrquinone is used in products as a skin lightener that reduces dark blemishes caused by everything from medical reactions to bruising,
Technically,Hydroquinone reduces the melanin in your skin and thus helps get rid of marks, but in doing so, it does more harm than good to your skin. Firsty, it’s permanently altering your pigment and not only this,it is also weakening the elastin and collagen in your problem area – the very things that are keeping your skin firm and youthful!
Some people even notice unsightly blotches after using hydroquinone, some claim to have got dermatitis or have allergic reactions after regular use. Finally, the icing on the cake is that there is some suspicion that it’s a carcinogen. The results aren’t worth the harm it causes.
Prevention-Accept your skin colour. If you still wish to look fair, use natural and herbal products.

5. Synthetic colors and Artificial Dyes

Whether you’re using your favorite hot pink lipstick, the classic rouge, or the classy black nail polish, chances are they are just as dangerous as they are fabulous.
Many of the products which are highly pigmented are likely made with synthetic colors that are made from coal tar. Though quite pretty, these artificial colors have been shown in studies to be carcinogenic and are most likely to cause skin sensitivity and irritation due to the heavy metals they deposit on your skin.
Prevention-Just check the ingredients of the product you are buying, and if you see anything listed beginning with FD&C or D&C, you know it is something which you want to avoid!
?So guys just ditch chemical products of any kind, as much as you can, because basically everything we are using today, is loaded with harmful chemicals. Yes, we cannot keep ourselves safe from them, but we can minimize their usage, go for herbal and natural products and keep a check on the ingredients list.?
